The Story[]

It's Monday morning, 5:45AM, at WUBD, a brand-new broadcast and streaming radio station in Columbus, Ohio. It is about the launch with its first program, the flagship morning show, Morning Show. Producer Shelly Meyers is anxiously awaiting the hosts when one of them, Pat Shock, arrives for work. Shelly is mad he waited until so close to show time, but he assures her that they have prepared as much as they possibly can and she can calm down. The other co-host, Gus Goodall, comes in and talks about 'the game' with Pat as Shelly retreats into her booth.

Gus and Pat argue over the definition of a blowout. The guys are interrupted when Shelly asks them if they've read their email. The station has changed its tagline yet again at the last minute. Pat balks at recording yet another version, but relents.

Shelly breaks in again and tells them she has a new headline for the rundown. Gus complains that the rundown is already set, but Shelly tells them it's breaking news. Gus says they are a comedy show, not a news show, and Shelly drops the bomb that she wants them to be primarily news. Gus is furious, more so when Pat reveals he already knew, having met secretly with Shelly. It is little comfort to Gus that Pat refuses to lie to his co-host now, and Pat tries to shrug it off as a little change, offering a hybrid compromise. Gus isn't buying it and accuses Pat of having a think for Shelly.

Reading the new headline, Pat becomes frustrated, too. He thinks the story is a joke, but Shelly assures him it's not. It's a big, exclusive scoop. Shelly has a connection in town hall and will put him on-air after the first commercial. Pat complains he didn't have time to prepare. Shelly tries to convince them it's an exciting opportunity. She admits she knew he would be mad, but she couldn't risk him refusing to go along with this. She appeals to Pat's ego and the kind of attention breaking this will get him. Pat starts to consider running Shelly's news, to Gus' chagrin.

The show goes on the air. Pat hesitates after the introduction, and Gus tries to go to his prepared comedy bit. Pat interrupts and breaks the news about a financial scandal involving Mayor Regina Hayes. The show fades out.
